Our Commitment to Responsible Journalism

At Penpoint News, our mission is to inform, connect, and empower our readers through timely, accurate, relevant, and responsible journalism.

We believe informed communities are stronger communities. Our editorial standards are designed to promote accuracy, fairness, transparency, independence, and accountability across the news and information we publish.

This Editorial Policy outlines the principles that guide our reporting, editing, publishing, corrections, and relationships with our readers, sources, contributors, and advertisers.

Accuracy & Verification

Accuracy is fundamental to our work.

Penpoint News strives to verify information before publication using reliable sources, documentation, firsthand reporting, public records, official statements, interviews, and other appropriate methods.

Our journalists and contributors are expected to:

• Make reasonable efforts to verify facts before publication.

• Attribute information to appropriate sources whenever possible.

• Clearly distinguish confirmed information from allegations, estimates, opinions, or developing information.

• Seek additional verification when information is disputed or uncertain.

• Avoid knowingly publishing false, misleading, or materially incomplete information.

• Provide appropriate context so facts are not presented in a misleading manner.

Breaking news may evolve quickly. When new verified information becomes available, stories may be updated accordingly.

Fairness & Context

Penpoint News seeks to present stories fairly and with sufficient context for readers to understand the issues being reported.

When reporting on disputes, allegations, controversies, or matters involving competing perspectives, we will make reasonable efforts to seek relevant viewpoints and provide individuals or organizations who are the subject of significant allegations an appropriate opportunity to respond when circumstances permit.

Fairness does not require presenting every viewpoint as equally supported by available evidence.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions at Penpoint News are made based on journalistic judgment and the interests of our readers.

Advertisers, sponsors, business partners, political organizations, public officials, outside organizations, and other third parties do not purchase favorable editorial coverage through ordinary advertising relationships.

Our editorial team retains authority over what stories are reported, how they are presented, and when they are published.

News, Analysis & Opinion

Penpoint News believes readers should be able to distinguish factual news reporting from opinion and commentary.

Content primarily expressing an author’s personal viewpoint may be identified as:

Opinion • Commentary • Column • Editorial • Guest Commentary

Analysis may provide additional interpretation, historical context, or expert perspective while remaining grounded in reported facts.

Opinions expressed by individual contributors do not necessarily represent the views of Penpoint News, its ownership, editors, employees, advertisers, or partners.

Sources & Attribution

Penpoint News seeks to identify sources whenever doing so is appropriate and safe.

Information obtained from other publications, organizations, public documents, studies, reports, interviews, or third-party sources should be appropriately attributed.

We will not intentionally present another person’s reporting, photographs, writing, research, or creative work as our own.

Anonymous Sources

There may be circumstances in which a source has legitimate reasons to request confidentiality.

Penpoint News may use information from unnamed or confidential sources when editors determine that the information is newsworthy, the source is in a position to know the information, and protecting the source’s identity is justified.

Whenever possible, information from confidential sources should be independently corroborated.

We do not promise confidentiality casually, and journalists should discuss significant confidentiality agreements with an editor when appropriate.

Headlines, Images & Captions

Headlines, photographs, captions, graphics, thumbnails, videos, and social media descriptions should accurately represent the accompanying story.

Penpoint News will make reasonable efforts to avoid:

• Sensational or misleading headlines.

• Images presented in a way that materially misrepresents an event.

• Captions that inaccurately identify people, locations, or circumstances.

• Alterations to documentary news photographs that materially change their journalistic meaning.

Illustrations, composites, AI-generated visuals, or other non-documentary imagery should be identified when necessary to prevent readers from reasonably mistaking them for documentary evidence of an actual event.

Artificial Intelligence

Penpoint News may use artificial intelligence and other digital tools to assist with certain aspects of our operations, such as research organization, transcription, brainstorming, data processing, workflow assistance, or content production.

AI-generated information should not automatically be treated as a verified source.

When AI tools materially contribute to published editorial content, Penpoint News should apply appropriate human review, fact-checking, editing, and disclosure based on the nature of the content.

Responsibility for material published by Penpoint News ultimately remains with the publication—not the technology used to assist in creating it.

Corrections & Updates

Penpoint News is committed to correcting significant factual errors.

When we determine that published content contains a material error, we may correct the information and, when appropriate, include a correction or editor’s note explaining the change.

Developing stories may also be updated as new information becomes available. An update does not necessarily indicate that the original reporting was incorrect.

Minor spelling, grammar, formatting, or stylistic changes that do not materially affect the meaning of an article may be made without a formal correction notice.

Conflicts of Interest

Writers, editors, and contributors should avoid situations in which personal, financial, professional, political, or other interests could improperly influence—or reasonably appear to influence—their reporting.

Potential conflicts relevant to a story should be disclosed to an editor.

When appropriate, Penpoint News may disclose a relevant relationship to readers or assign coverage to another journalist.

Political Coverage

Penpoint News seeks to approach political reporting with independence, accuracy, fairness, and appropriate context.

Our news coverage should not be used to intentionally promote or oppose a political candidate, party, organization, or ideology on behalf of the publication unless the content is clearly identified as opinion or editorial material.

Political advertising and sponsored political communications, when accepted, should be clearly distinguished from independent editorial content.

Advertising & Sponsored Content

Penpoint News may generate revenue through advertising, sponsorships, partnerships, and other commercial relationships.

Paid material should be clearly distinguishable from independent editorial reporting.

Depending on the format, commercial content may be labeled with terms such as:

Advertisement • Sponsored • Paid Content • Partner Content

Advertisers and sponsors may have input into content created specifically as paid promotional material, but paid relationships should not dictate the conclusions of independent Penpoint News reporting.

Gifts, Compensation & Free Products

Journalists and contributors should not accept payments, gifts, services, travel, products, or other benefits when doing so could reasonably compromise editorial independence.

When products, event admission, travel, or other benefits are provided for review or coverage purposes, disclosure may be included when appropriate.

User-Submitted Content & News Tips

Penpoint News welcomes news tips, photographs, videos, story ideas, community information, and other reader submissions.

Submission does not guarantee publication.

User-submitted material may be reviewed, edited, verified, declined, or removed at our editorial discretion. Penpoint News may request additional information or documentation before publishing submitted claims.

Submitting material does not automatically establish the information as fact.

Privacy, Dignity & Sensitivity

News reporting sometimes involves tragedy, crime, death, children, victims, private individuals, and other sensitive circumstances.

Penpoint News will consider the public interest alongside the potential impact of publication.

Special care should be taken when reporting on minors, victims of sexual violence, grieving families, private medical information, graphic material, and individuals who may be particularly vulnerable.

Being legally permitted to publish information does not automatically mean publication is editorially necessary.

Crime & Allegations

Individuals accused, arrested, or charged with crimes should not be described as guilty unless guilt has been established through the appropriate legal process.

Penpoint News should clearly distinguish between allegations, charges, arrests, convictions, and other stages of legal proceedings.

When appropriate and reasonably available, subsequent significant developments may be added to existing coverage.

Graphic & Sensitive Content

Penpoint News may occasionally report on events involving violence, disasters, accidents, death, or other disturbing circumstances.

Graphic images, videos, or descriptions should only be used when editors determine that they provide meaningful journalistic value.

When appropriate, readers may be warned before encountering particularly disturbing material.

Plagiarism & Content Integrity

Penpoint News does not tolerate plagiarism.

Writers and contributors are expected to appropriately attribute material originating from other sources and comply with applicable copyright requirements.

Fabricating quotations, sources, events, interviews, documents, or other material is inconsistent with Penpoint News editorial standards.

Removal & Unpublishing Requests

As a general principle, Penpoint News does not remove accurate, lawfully published journalism solely because a person or organization later dislikes or disagrees with the coverage.

Requests involving significant inaccuracies, privacy concerns, safety concerns, legal issues, extraordinary personal circumstances, or other compelling considerations may be reviewed individually.

Penpoint News retains editorial discretion over whether content should be corrected, updated, anonymized, restricted, or removed, subject to applicable law.

Accountability to Our Readers

Our readers are an important part of maintaining the quality of our journalism.
