Durango, CO (PPN) – Wilkinson County Police Department issued a warrant for West Feliciana Parish and Zachary fire captain and murder suspect in connection with the shooting death of his wife over the weekend.
Rudolf Shoats worked full-time for Zachary Fire Department (ZFD) and part-time for West Feliciana Fire Department (WFFD). The 13-year veteran of ZFD was a no call no show Sunday and Monday for his shifts at WFFD.
Authorities searched for Captain Rudolf “Rudi” Shoats, 45, but was unable to locate him until a tip came in Monday from Colorado. Shoats murdered his wife at their residence and fled the state.
Khristie Rollins Shoats, 45, was found dead around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday in the passenger seat of her car at the 800 block of Carter Loop Road in Woodville, Mississippi from a single gunshot wound to her head, according to the Advocate newspaper.
Colorado detectives contacted Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Department and reported Shoats committed suicide at 12:27 p.m. in Mercy Regional Medical Center’s parking lot. He shot himself one time in the head causing his 2008 white Ford F-150 to accelerate off a 15-foot to 20-foot retaining metal wall and land upside down in a delivery dock.
“It appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Durango PD spokesman Cmdr. Ray Shupe. “They’re still investigating why he stopped at Mercy and did it there in the parking lot.”
Wilkinson County Sheriff Reginald Jackson said the employees that identified Shoats heard a gunshot right after he pulled into the parking lot.
This is a developing story.
