Southern University receives $25,000 donation, Chancellor challenges alumnus to give more

Shreveport, LA (PPN) – Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) received a donation Friday from SU alumnus Tony Williams and his wife Tina during the Southern University Alumni Federation Leadership Summit.

Williams, a Shreveport native, attended SUSLA and transferred to the Baton Rouge campus where he received his college degree. The couple donated $25, 000 to SUSLA to establish The Five-Fifths Agenda for America program, according to KSLA.

“We are certainly grateful for his generous donation that will contribute to the facilitation of the FFAA project on our campus,” said SUSLA Chancellor Rodney A. Ellis.

Last month, PPN Publisher Daniel Banguel posed a very strong opinion article about alumni’s giving back to Southern University. In the article, it stated “Let’s Give Back to Our School!! We will hold the Administration accountable for every dollar that we give back! Let’s take our school back!!”

Banguel, who is also a graduate of Southern University isn’t the only person who wants better for the beloved HBCU.

Ellis also stated, “We also encourage other Alumni and friends of the college to consider matching his gift.”
