Local NAACP Branch launches an investigation into the proposed EBRP Plan of Government Changes

Baton Rouge, LA (PPN)-The Baton Rouge Branch of The NAACP issued out a press release stating that there will be an investigation into the proposed changes to the East Baton Rouge Plan of Government. Today, The Baton Rouge Business Report released an article describing major changes into the cities plan of government which includes implementing two at-large council seats and a city manager position, along with enhancing council authority over the annual executive budget process.

“We believe that the changes proposed by the East Baton Rouge Parish Plan of Government Amendment Committee dilute African American voting and could directly violate The Voting Rights Act”, said Eugene Collins, President of the Baton Rouge NAACP Branch,

The NAACP is opposing the proposed changes to the East Baton Rouge Parish Plan of Government put forth by East Baton Rouge Parish Plan of Government Amendment Committee and will further investigate any violations of the Voting Rights Act this could cause.

The NAACP will hold a press conference before the next Metro Council Meeting outlining our objections and a community action plan.
