La’el Collins, a native of Baton Rouge who attended Redemptorist High School, is truly a hero to many children who could not afford a Christmas gift this year. He tributes his giving back to the community as a reflection of his past time up bringing and his mother not being able to afford a bike to give him.
La’el Collins is a former player for the LSU Tigers and a current player for the Dallas Cowboys. La’el Collins jersey number is 71 which is quite ironic because he called his event “71 Days of Christmas” which he donated 71 bikes to the Baton Rouge community.
Collins has been a member of Jehovah Jireh Ministries for the past 13 years.
According to Johmy Carter, “La’el and his family have been apart of our ministry for over 13 years. He, his siblings and I grew up together so we’re more like brothers and sisters. When he was just a boy my mother Shepherdess Carter spoke into his life that he or one of his siblings would go to the NFL, years later her prophesy has come into fruition. I remember that the Collins family didn’t have much growing up but they were a very loving, friendly and close knit family; and still are to this day. To see him come back “home” to the place where he got his Spiritual foundation and tell his Pastor how much he appreciated the things that she instilled into him growing up and how it played such a vital role in his success made me so proud and humbled because my family and have dedicated our lives to making a difference in the lives of the people in the community that we serve. We are grateful for his loving contribution to the children in our ministry and also other less fortunate children who were affected by this years terrible flood. La’el Collins, number 71 for the Dallas Cowboys is a man of integrity, character, and love and I know that with the foundation that he’s received from his mother, Shepherdess Carter and his church family he will go to higher heights than he can imagine!”
Collins is currently rehabbing a surgically mended toe and he is projected to be available for the Cowboys post season run.
