The Buchanan County jail confirmed that the man who fled the scene after a fatal crash has been identified as former Bachelor star Chris Soules. Chris Soules, 35, was booked Tuesday morning at 1:16 a.m. on charges of leaving the scene of an accident at which a death occurred.
Officials reported that a pickup collided with a tractor north of Aurora. The accident happened about 15 miles south of the farm where Soules lives in Arlington.
A 2640 John Deere tractor was rear-ended by the 2008 Chevy pickup truck driven by Soules. Soules fled the scene on foot.
Kenneth E. Mosher, 66, of Aurora was injured and taken to Mercy Hospial in Oelwein after the crash, where he was pronounced dead.
Soules was arrested, taken to the hospital, and then jail. He faces up to five years in prison.
According to court documents, Soules’ charge is a Class D felony and his bond was set at $10,000.
On Tuesday afternoon, his representative, Stan Rosenfield, released a statement acknowledging, “Chris Soules was involved in an accident Monday evening (April 24) in a rural part of Iowa near his home. He was devastated to learn that Kenneth Mosher, the other person in the accident, passed away. His thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Mosher’s family.”
Soules appeared in Season 10 of The Bachelorette in 2014 and was chosen to be the next season’s Bachelor. He proposed to Whitney Bischoff in the finale but the couple eventually called off their engagement.
