Bumble Bee Foods pleads guilty in $25 M price-fixing case

(PPN) – North America’s largest branded shelf-stable seafood company, Bumble Bee Foods LLC got stung.

The leading seafood distributor pleaded guilty this week to conspiring to fixing prices of canned and pouch tuna, the Justice Department said in a press conference Monday.

Bumble Bee Foods agreed to pay up a minimum $25 million for the criminal act.

“Companies small and large hold a great deal of the American peoples’ trust and this type of unfair, greedy behavior will not be tolerated,” special agent in the FBI’s San Francisco division, John Bennett said in a statement.

Two of the company’s executives have already been released on paid leave while the investigation continues.
