Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed




Baton Rouge, LA (PPN) – Late Saturday night an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot and killed in the line of duty. He was responding to a domestic incident around 11 p.m.

The shooting occurred at Classic Cuts Barbershop off of O’Neal Lane at I-12. The deputy’s name has not been released. He was taken to Ochsner Medical Center where he died of fatal injuries.

Mayor Sharon Weston Broome said, “This is a tragedy for our community.”

The unidentified gunman was shot also and is receiving treatment at a separate hospital. Allegedly, the gunman is a felon with arrests for attempted murder and sexually abusing a  child.

“We are focused on working with the family, praying for the family and making sure our deputies have the help and support they need,” the sheriff’s spokesperson, Casey Rayborn Hicks, said.

Louisiana State Police will handle the investigation.
