11-year-old commited suicide after girlfriend’s online prank

Marquette, MI (PPN)  – A Michigan mother is heart broken after her son’s 13-year-old girlfriend faked her death online. Katrina Goss found her son hanging by the neck on March 14 in his room.

Goss found out that her 11-year-old son, Tysen Benz, saw social media posts and received text messages from his girlfriend’s friends about her committing suicide. They went along with the prank to make it seem realistic.

After seeing posts about his girlfriend, Benz replied over social media that he was going to kill himself. No one reported this to any adult after reading his comment.

“She had pranked her own death,” Goss, 41, said of her son’s girlfriend. “I don’t know what possessed her to do such a weird prank. It’s a twisted, sick joke.”

Tysen was rushed to an area hospital and later transferred to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, near Detroit. He died Tuesday.

The unidentified juvenile is being charged with telecommunication services-malicious use and using a computer to commit a crime.
