Baton Rouge Police Officer kills unarmed man during an altercation

Baton Rouge (PPN)-An officer-involved shooting occurred Monday night at the Palms Apartments.

The incident happened on Monday, November 13 around 6 p.m. at the Palms Apartments, East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced man dead at the scene.

Louisiana State Police indicates an officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) was called out to be an escort for a Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) caseworker who was conducting an investigation.

Louisiana State Police officials say a struggle then ensued between the officer and the male subject, neither of which are being identified at this time. The man was shot and killed during the struggle. The officer sustained a minor injury in the scuffle.

Officials confirmed that Baton Rouge Police Department Officer had a body cam and that the video will be reviewed.

Louisiana State Police officials and DA Hillar Moore said the suspect was not handcuffed when shot.  Moore also said that there was tasing that went on between the officer and the man during the altercation.
